Holidays and Ramadan

  • National Day (25 February) and Liberation Day (26 February) are the biggest celebrations of the year; hotels fill up and the seafront is crowded.
  • During Ramadan, eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours are not allowed. Opening hours change, but evenings are lively and atmospheric.
  • Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha bring public holidays of several days; many residents travel abroad and flights are busy.
  • See the events calendar for the year’s festivals and expected holiday dates.
