Its sculpted, twisting form makes Al Hamra Tower the signature of the Kuwait City skyline — and, at 412.6 metres, the tallest building in the country.

Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), Al Hamra was begun in 2005 and completed in 2011. A slice carved from its southern face spirals up around the core, so the tower changes shape as you move around the city.

The largely solid south side shields the offices from the strongest sun, while the other façades open to views of the Gulf. The tower is often described as the tallest sculpted concrete skyscraper in the world.

At its base, the Al Hamra Luxury Center brings together boutiques, restaurants and a cinema — a good place to pause while exploring the Sharq district.
