Housed in the old Eastern School of 1939, the Museum of Modern Art in Sharq shows modern Kuwaiti, Arab and international art around a quiet courtyard.
The building was built in 1939 for Al-Madrasa Al-Sharqiya, the Eastern School, where generations of Kuwaitis studied — among them the late Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Today its former classrooms hold a collection of modern Arab and international art, including works by the pioneers of the Kuwaiti art movement, and the collection continues to grow with new acquisitions.
