At 372 metres, the Liberation Tower is the second-tallest structure in Kuwait. Begun before the 1990 invasion and completed in 1993, it was named to mark the country’s liberation.
The telecommunications tower was under construction when Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990, and work stopped during the occupation. It resumed after liberation, and when the tower was completed in 1993 it was named Burj Al-Tahrir — the Liberation Tower.
The tower is not open to tourists. The complex at its base houses the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority and a government service centre. Enjoy it from the streets of Qibla and Sharq, or lit up on the skyline at night.
