Opened on 1 May 2019, the causeway carries a highway 36 km across Kuwait Bay from Shuwaikh to Subiya — one of the longest road bridges in the world.

The Main Link is 36.14 km long and crosses two artificial islands, Bay Island North and Bay Island South; a separate Doha Link connects Kuwait City with the Doha district, bringing the total length to 48.5 km.

Named after the late Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the bridge is part of the Kuwait Vision 2035 plan to develop the north of the country around Subiya.

There is nowhere to stop on the bridge itself, so the experience is the drive: low over the water, with the city skyline in the mirror on the way north.
