Kuwait’s coastal road follows the shore from the city to Salmiya past beaches, parks and cafés — and at Salmiya, the curving promenade of Marina Crescent wraps around the yacht harbour.

Arabian Gulf Street — Gulf Road to most residents — is the best way to understand how Kuwait lives with the sea. Driving or walking it, you pass Seif Palace, the National Museum, Souq Sharq, the Kuwait Towers, Green Island and the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre before reaching the cafés and beaches of Salmiya.

At Salmiya the promenade opens out at Marina Crescent, a waterfront of restaurants and cafés overlooking the boats of the marina, next to Marina Mall. On winter evenings and weekends the whole seafront fills with families, joggers and cyclists.

Good to know

  • Swimwear is fine on the beach itself, but cover up on the promenade and in cafés.
  • In summer, walk only after sunset; daytime heat on the seafront can be dangerous.
