Opened in 1988 off Arabian Gulf Street, Green Island was the first artificial island in the Gulf region — a waterside park of lawns, palms and promenades linked to the shore by a bridge.
The island is a popular place for picnics, walks and views back across the water to the city. It is run by the Touristic Enterprises Company, which uses it for seasonal programmes.
In 2023 the island’s “Green Island Season”, marking the National and Liberation Day holidays, brought restaurants, cafés and games — and one of the largest drone shows in Kuwait’s history, with 2,000 drones.
